Banuti Ranchers humble beginnings started with the Ankole,
the pride of the Bahima, the owner's tribe. He has fond memories
of his childhood in western Uganda, herding cattle with his father
and grandfather, who both developed in him his passion for ranching.
Nobody can lay claim to knowing more about Ankole cattle than him.
Mr. Nuwamanya Barnabas started his ranching career with Ankole cattle from his
Father, Tinkamanyire Yafesi and Grandfather. The history of the Ankole cattle in his
family goes back many generations. Barnabas has a desire to continue to keep on
improving the Ankole breed by using superior genetic Ankole bulls to enhance the breed.
Ankole cattle go back thousands of years and are the oldest breed of cattle on earth today.
Their history can be traced back to Himatic tribes in the 15th century that brought them to
northern Uganda. The tse tse fly forced the tribes to move further south, and the Bahima
tribe landed on the shores of Lake Victoria.
The Ankole breed is extremely adaptable to poor conditions with little water and limited grazing.
